The main area of the screen contains the Markup Map views while the right-hand pane allows you to perform many of the actions required during an IN PROGRESS mission. When a change is made in the system during a mission, the associated icon will change to orange to let users know a change has been made. In the example below, the Markup icon has been highlighted to alert users of a Markup change.
Map Zooming
If you are required to view the map in greater detail, you can use the + (zoom in) and – (zoom out) icons on the left side of the map.
When using a tablet, you can use the pinch-to-zoom to zoom in or out of the displayed map. To use pinch-to-zoom, touch two fingers on the touch screen, and move them apart to zoom in, or together to zoom out. A busy indicator is displayed in the top right corner of the map markup view while the map is being redrawn during zooming.
Markup
Markup allows you to add markup to the selected map. Click on the Markup icon in the navigation panel to activate the MARKUP MAP panel. It contains a prepopulated list of problems and events that can be placed on the map for communications during an active mission between the captain and the briefing officer. When a markup icon is added to the map by a user, the icon will pulse for other users to indicate the markup is new.
There are several types of capabilities that can be used for the Markup Map functions: Add Icon, Add Highlight, Add Photo, Add Note, Add Gas Reading, and Add Text.
Add Icon
- Select the DEFAULT or OTHER tab to click and hold an icon to drag and drop for placement on the map in view. (Scroll to the end of this article for more information on OTHER icons.)

- Clicking Add Gas Reading icons that have been committed allows you to view the reading associated with that icon. All gas readings are displayed as one decimal place precision.
Add Text
- Drag and drop Text for placement of the text box on the map. Once the text icon is placed the map enters markup mode for adding a line of text.
- Clicking or touching the text box allows a user to edit the text.
- The "add text here" text disappears once the user starts typing.
- The text box allows up to 20 characters.
- The text box disappears if a user clicks or taps away without adding any text immediately after placing it on the map.
- A user can edit the placed text box until the team's mission is finalized. However, the placed text box disappears if all text within the box is cleared.
Icon Placement Order
- Icons saved to a map automatically display a number in the order they were placed on the map.
- Every time an icon is added, the number will increase by one.
- If an icon is removed from a map, its number will be assigned to the next-placed icon.
Map Selection
- In the top left corner, there is a map selection drop down which indicates the current map selected for markup.
- To switch maps, click on the map selection dropdown and select the name of the map you want to view.
- Maps are displayed alphabetically and up to five maps are displayed in the list with a scrollbar to select any additional maps that have been assigned to the mission.
- If no map is selected during setup, the system will display the default world map as the background.
Adding a Map
There are times when it may be required to add a map once the mission has started.
- Click + Add Map From the map selection dropdown.
- This launches the MAP SET-UP step from the mission wizard. See the MAP SET-UP section for steps to select an existing map for the mission or how to add a map that does not exist in the selection list.
